Carita never, ever turns down a cuppa coffee. It shows.

Carita Groundstroem tells everyone she meets that she is from Tampere, Finland. That is a big fat lie. In fact she was born in Rovaniemi, but lived in Övertorneå from where she moved to Oulu, Haparanda, Kalix, Ylitornio, and spent a year in Norway. Then she turned eight.

For the past 15 years she has referred to Tampere as home, but lived in Edinburgh, Scotland; Knoxville, Tennessee; and Vaasa and Helsinki, Finland. “Restless” is just one of the few words that describes her well, but definitely the one that requires least definition. All the others like “blonde,” “bouncy” and “ditzy” make her sound like a bimbo. She likes to think she isn’t. But “energetic to the point of exhaustion” could easily be pinned on her on a good day. “Sarcastic and nasty” on a bad one.

Carita is a journalist freelancing for different newspapers in Finland and during summer 2002 worked for one of the radio stations at the Finnish Broadcasting Service. She has worked for a recruiting company and the national Finnish airline where she could perfect her talent of talking nonsense at an incredible speed. Now she spends twice the effort trying to talk like normal people on national radio.

For BootsnAll she loves to write about things that interest her in a way that interests her – and hopefully others too. And as much as she would love to throw in a quote from Jack Kerouac she will end this with a quote from Dr Seuss instead:

“You have brains in your head,
you have feet in your shoes,
You can steer yourself
any direction you choose,
You’re on your own,
and you know what you know,
And YOU are the guy
who’ll decide where to go”

Oh and did she mention she hates doing what is expected of her? I’ll bet you figured it out anyway!
