Born and raised amid the cornfields and pickup trucks of Southern Indiana, Jenny finally managed to find a little city there she got along with when she began studying at Indiana University in Bloomington, IN. Here, a lifelong passion for writing inspired her semi-random choice to major in journalism, and an endless search for truth persuaded her to add another major in philosophy. Sadly, her desire to discern the meaning of all existence couldn’t withstand the existence of all the meaningless philosophy majors, so she traded that major in for a concentration in fine art and a certificate in the history and philosophy of science, all of which she hopes to receive in May 2005.
Jenny’s travel history is sparse and almost completely in the continental U.S., with most of her miles tucked under her belt before she was ten years old. She likes to tell people she lived in Scotland for a year, which is true, but her story loses a bit of luster when she admits she was a year old at the time, decidedly pre-memory. In the end, it was myriad family road trips to California via Mt. Rushmore/Grand Canyon/Yosemite/Niagara Falls and everything in between, along with summers in Maine replete with jaunts to Quebec, Bar Harbor, and anywhere within a day’s drive, that lit a fire under her to do her own exploring.
Nowadays, Jenny may be restricted to short trips when time and money allow them, but has let go of any state-directed bitterness with the discovery of culture in Bloomington, its centrality amongst a smattering of big-ish cities, and the shocking revelation that there is more to do there than plan road trips to concerts in other states.
Jenny is a burgeoning photographer, and her quest for all things beautiful (combined with a violent hatred of the American drinking age) has focused her dreams on the far-off for years, although she has recently realized that by the time she saves up enough money to get out of the country, she’ll be legal to drink in the U.S. anyway. After graduation, she hopes to make the obligatory rounds in Europe and head East, but if another opportunity presents itself she won’t be turning her nose up.
