Victoria, BC Canada – October 2001

Unusual New Stage Show Debuts

From September 25 to October 2, The Belfry Theatre presents the premiere of Flying Blind, the company’s first international project. This new collective creation (the show has been created by the director and performers) features the talents of Australians Debra Iris Batton, Alexandra Harrison, Carl Polke and Brendan Shelper and Canadians Lois Anderson, Peter Anderson, Manon Beaudoin, and Colin Heath. Belfry Artistic Director Roy Surette is the director.

Renowned for their demanding and dramatic brand of acrobatic, aerobatic,
and aerial theatre, “Legs on the Wall” have performed throughout the world.
The Canadians involved in the project were involved with a number of immensely popular original creations including The Overcoat (to be broadcast on CBC in the new year), The Number 14, and Cirque Poule.

Flying Blind incorporates the Greek concept of Kairos, which purports that at certain times we are given opportunities to change our predetermined fates. In Flying Blind, 8 lonely characters, some related, others single, each with a quirk, live in the same dilapidated home. One evening a chunk of the sky falls and lands in their backyard, creating a glowing hole. What follows is a magical, mysterious world where anything can happen.

Tickets range in price from $15 – $28, call the Belfry Box Office at 385-6815 or call in person at Tourism Victoria’s Information Centre at 812 Wharf Street.
Discounts for groups of 10 or more are available.
