Chasing the Sun: Intro

Intro

About 3 years ago, we sat down and decided we were bored with our jobs and Atlanta and wanted to set out to see the world. We had just purchased a house in a nice neighborhood in Atlanta that needed a lot of renovating. We had our job set out for us – to renovate and sell as quickly as possible! We worked for a year and a half, completely renovated the bungalow and finished the project (thanks to our friend Wicked Steve in Canada!) in the summer of 2001. We put the house up for sale late summer and lived with a very “clean” house until it sold on April 26, 2002. Since we thought the house would sell faster, we finished most of our trip planning last year.

When deciding where our trip would be taking us, we posted a huge map on the wall and each put little pins showing where we wanted to go. After the map was loaded with pins, we discussed which places we wanted to spend the most time and how much time we wanted to spend in other places. We wanted to head east from Atlanta because we will spend Christmas with Bid’s grandparents in France. We also wanted to follow warm weather, although there will be a few times and altitudes where we will experience colder climates. We figured out it would take us at least two years to go where we wanted.

Then we researched RTW budgets all over the internet to find out how much we needed. We are traveling very cheap and staying in hostels and with many friends (you guys are great) and friends of friends (you all rock because you don’t even know us and love us yet!).

Shots, shots and more shots! Rene tears up every time she sees a needle, so this wasn’t the best experience although we had a great nurse who knew how to give the shot without letting Rene know about it! We are just happy that part is over, and we are clearly immune to lots of diseases now.

So we are heading east starting June 1, 2002. We are stopping through New York to visit Emmanuel’s sister for four days, then flying to Paris. Our itinerary is only set through the end of December, but we’ll keep you posted up to six months in advance. The itinerary can be found on a separate page (coming soon). Let us know if you are going to be in the same area – we’d love to have a cocktail or two with fellow BootsnAll travelers!
