From Baja to the Land of Fire: Intro

Six Months Over Land & Water
From Tijuana, Mexico to Ushuaia, Argentina

So, I’m in Mexico. Finally. It seems I have been on the road to Mexico (and beyond) for a few years now. Even though I was not always aware of this until 6 months ago. How? Why?

Well, more than 4 years ago the classic thing happened, I was going into decline, some sort of midlife crises, losing my drive for life. I was losing my motivation for my job, the future and many other things. I know this now, but at that moment in time I didn’t really know what was happening. This led up to my separation from Jacqueline, my wife, one year later. After 12 years I was once again alone. This was good for me as well as for her. We now have a most remarkable friendship.

One year after this I quit my job with no initial plans for the future (an open ended-sabbatical or something). I had had a good job as a financial director and saved some money to keep me going for a while. I guess I couldn’t just stop working overnight (some kind of addiction thing) and soon became involved in helping friends start a business. I was working harder than ever it seemed, with no income besides. Once the business started going (see citymundo.com) I finally was going to relax. At least I thought I was.

It then happened I threw myself into an intense affair with all the consequences things like this brings. I had my heart broken so hard all other feelings just went numb. All lust for life evaporated. You know the feeling.

Luckily I still had some rational thought left, and I knew I had to get away. The time had come. I knew I had to go on that BIG trip I have always dreamed about. I needed new impressions, inspirations, sensations, ideas, dreams, etc, etc. After planning for 6 months I am now in Los Mochis, Mexico, just starting the journey after spending several days getting adjusted in La Paz. I have no specific goals, just a list of all the sights along the way. I just want to be on the move, to observe, experience, feel, enjoy.

I hope you will enjoy my trip with me as I try to give you an impression of what I am experiencing.

Cheers,
Theo
