The Thermal Trip #1: Introduction – Europe

The Thermal Trip #1: Introduction
Europe
I’m off to Nepal, the long way round! In September I went trekking in Nepal and loved it so much came back to England determined to return. So, instead of booking a flight to Kathmandu, I decided to travel overland, and booked one to Moscow instead.

Overland travel from Moscow to Nepal for me involves the Trans-Siberian train. While I was researching this possibility, I came across the Russia Experience Agency and their backpacker trips on the Beetroot Bus. Their Christmas trip incorporating Moscow and St Petersburg seemed interesting, so I have booked that. Then I booked my ticket on the Trans-Mongolian train for December 31st 2002, arriving in Beijing on January 6th 2003.

As I wanted to try and support myself while travelling, the idea of teaching came up. While looking on the internet I spotted an advert for teachers in China on a 6 week contract basis, so I applied and got the job, starting on January 10th in ChangChun.

This will take me until February 28th when I plan to head for Tibet and then onto Nepal, just in time to go trekking again, this time on the Annapurna Circuit hopefully. Then it will be onward into India, where I hope I will be able to pick up another teaching job to help finance my travels further.
