Introduction

Over seven years ago, we bought a round the world ticket and caught the infectious travel bug. In 2002, after three long, tedious years of living like hermits, we saved enough money to fund our dream of a grand tour through Africa and Asia.

Having completed our first leg in deepest, darkest Africa, it was time to immerse ourselves in an entirely different culture in Asia. Our aim was to revisit old haunts in Thailand, make some sense of the myriad of Hindu Gods in India, chill out in Goa, contort our limbs into various shapes studying yoga in an ashram, trek through the Himalayas without being mugged by the Maoist rebels and finally pause for breath in mystical, secretive Myanmar.

Whether we would reach Angkor Wat, complete a PADI dive course, get lost in Laos or sign up for a hill tribe trek in Vietnam, it hardly mattered. We were free to do whatever we wanted, when we wanted, having made a conscious choice to book a one way ticket. Our first stop was Sri Lanka, who knows what our last stop would be?

If you’d like to catch up on our progress to date, Big Brother’s African Brother chronicles the amazing highlights and painful lows our trip.
