Getting a (Night)life – Siem Reap, Cambodia

Getting a (Night)life – Siem Reap, Cambodia
Siem Reap, Cambodia

You’ll be so tired from walking around all day that you might not want to go out (like me and my travel companion). But if you are up for dinner and a drink, try these spots recommended by Let’s Go: Thailand.

The Grand Hotel’s Performance House: Located in the Grand Hotel (obviously), you can see traditional Khmer dance and drama and enjoy a buffet dinner. Tickets for Monday, Wednesday and Saturday cost $22 U.S., with dinner at 7 p.m. and the show at 8 p.m. If you’re in the mood to splurge, reward yourself with a swank nightcap at the hotel’s Elephant Bar, which has happy hour specials 4 p.m.-8 p.m..

Bayon II Restaurant: This restaurant also offers Khmer dance but the price is only $11 U.S. for tickets; showtime is at 8 p.m. Look for it on Route 6 on the eastern side of the river.

A better (and cheaper) area for nighttime fun is along V. Sivatha far south of Route 6. You’ll find a night market right on V. Sivatha that serves noodle dishes for less than $1 U.S. There’s a fruit market next door. This area, near the Old Market (Psar Cha), also boasts Angkor What? and Ivy Bar, two fun spots for the younger crowd.
