John England – Author Bio

John hails from Seattle, Washington where he has lived his entire life, but his true nature is better defined by his English background. You see, John is about as English as they come. His last name, as you may have noticed, is, in fact, England. He is also of English descent on both sides of his family, and after dabbling in several different majors at the University of Washington, he finally settled on English Creative Writing. Is it dumb luck that so much 'Englishness' has aligned in his life? That remains to be seen.

John was raised by a mother who, as a part of her job as a social worker, was required to travel around the world to various locations. During these travels he had the good fortune to accompany her. After visiting fifteen countries, John's desire for new experiences and chances to explore has grown, not lessened. Although he has technically finished his degree, he recently enrolled in a series of the University of Washington study abroad classes funded by scholarship. In the last two months he visited Greece, Turkey, Switzerland, France, Austria and Mexico, where studied Spanish in the colonial town of Oaxaca.

In January he will venture to Guadalajara to earn his Teaching English as a Foreign Language Certificate. When he's not traveling, John enjoys reading, writing, cooking, mountaineering, dancing salsa, techno and fantasizing about having a motorcycle and enough money to afford the insurance. More than anything, though, John appreciates the absurd moments in life; times when the best laid plans fail and the least expected events manifested themselves in ridiculous ways.

A recent favorite was the overnight ferry ride he took to the Greek island, Ios. On the boat were two hundred Slovenian students, including "Rok", the country's number one rapper, whose crazy rhymes and techno beats spurred on a Euro trash dance party on the boat's top level. After he graduates in December at the age of 23, John plans to get a job doing something other than pouring Starbucks coffee, which seems to the short-term fate of many Liberal Arts majors in Seattle. In the long run he plans to teach English (there we go again) internationally, to fund his way around the world, live in China and make a bagillion dollars. How he will accomplish these goals is as of yet unclear.
