This is excactly what's happening... we always think it's just there, we never take the time to ever visit the sights of our own home town, except when we go there with school at the age of 12! I don't know many Londoners having been to the British museum unless taking some friends from abroad... it looks so diferrent if we take a day and see the place we live in through the eyes of a tourist..

I guess the ol' saying rings true- however disappointing- 'you are never a tourist in your own city' And I am just as guilty. Traveling abroad, as I have been lucky to do, always reenergizes me seek those unique sites regardless of their physical locality. Good read, and great topic to discuss as well

You are so right! I'm guilty of doing the same. I've been to Bucharest countless of times (at least twice each year!) and never been inside the huge "Casa Poporului" (the seat of the Parliament).

When I visited both Vienna and Budapest I wasn't too shocked to realize that 90% of the persons visiting the cities were tourists and not locals.
