Matt, you make a good point. The fact that I don’t really think it’s a great idea to travel the same old tourist circuit through Thailand doesn’t exclude banana pancakes from being tasty– they are. But, they’re also a sign of just how much Thailand’s culture has had to bend to satisfy us (the western backpacker). That’s their right of course, being that they have a free market economy but it’s also ironic because most backpackers are hunting for new, exciting, unique experiences and those are tough to find when sticking to the Lonely Planet route.
