Have to admit I’m not sure about Manchester either…I’d suggest York or Liverpool before Manchester, and definitely more time in Devon, truly beautiful and very friendly.

If you’re going to go up to the Yorkshire Dales, do your research and have at least an initial route before…I figured I’d just go at random for a scenic drive, and found it very frustrating.

Small villages with good pubs dotted along the South Downs…. there’s plenty of fun to be had there. Otherwise Cornwall I reckon.

I can’t believe Manchester has come such a long way in the past 10 years. Loads of great museums and galleries. If you haven’t seen it already, http://www.creativetourist.com has some really useful resources for the slightly more ‘highbrow’ visitor

Good call on Devon & Cornwall. Absolutely gorgeous area. I might add Dover (those famous white cliffs!) to the mix. And of course Oxford is just as important (if not more so) than Cambridge.

I don’t think its meant to be the 7 best-ever places. Just 7 good places that are not in London. There is so much diversity in England it is impossible to have visited everywhere.

It’s a good article. Interesting choices. The only thing I would say is that Bath is not really in the Cotswolds. So I would have counted Bath seperately.

I am very suprised to see Manchester in there…What happened to Oxford, especially if you are in the Cotswolds..or do you mean visit Oxford when in the Cotswolds, I hope you know what I mean…Manchester is a very strange choice…! Well I think it is anyway..sorry
