Melbourne - Accommodation

The Friendly Backpacker

197 King Street, Melbourne 9670 1111

$18 a night

Features: all linen provided, air conditioning, laundry facilities, internet access and employment help. Situated on Melbourne's inner city Night Club strip. Most of the Clubs are rather dodgy and many of them are strip joints or have table top dancers. However, it is still a great location a short walk away from the city centre.

Kings Gate Hotel

131 King St, Melbourne 9629 4171

Single $35

Double $55

Triple $70 all with shared facilities

Kings Gate Hotel was once a youth hostel. However, it still has budget accommodation for the traveller who prefers not to sleep in dormitories. It is also situated on Kings Street.

Nomads Market Inn

115 Cecil St, South Melbourne 9690 2220

From $15 a night, including breakfast

Has a small bar, TV room - with cable, free bike hire, sauna and free BBQ every Sunday night. It's right opposite the South Melbourne Market.

Oslo Hotel

28 Grey St, St Kilda 9525 4498

From $14 a night

TV room and pool room. You should be able to see prostitutes working the streets and all the local deros from your window.

St Kilda is the choice area for Backpackers as it has an alternative sort of atmosphere and is not too far from the city. There is something to do every night with quite a few pubs and lots of cafes and restaurants in the area. St Kilda especially comes alive on Sundays when people come from all over Melbourne to enjoy the outdoors by roller blading along the beach path or to shop at the Esplanade Market.

Ritz Backpackers

169 Fitzroy St, St Kilda 9525 3501

$15 a night

Great location. The Ritz Backpackers also organise Quiz Nights with special guests from Neighbours every 2nd Tuesday at the Elephant and Wheelbarrow pub down the street.
