Alice Springs is more than the gateway to Uluru. However, if you are flying in from one of the big cities to have an outback experience, Alice Springs is where you will land. It’s a surprisingly complete city in the middle of the desert and truly an oasis for travelers who get there overland.
This is a stop on the famous Ghan Railway and one of the original towns that grew up around the telegraph station that was built when the original wires were crisscrossing the continent. There is a living history museum on top of the hill that tells the story of the original settlers.
