Anthony St. Clair
BootsnAll Photojournalist
Anthony "Ant" St. Clair got a taste for solo and independent travel while taking roadtrips in college, and he was never quite the same. After graduating, he left behind his native Virginia in summer 1999 to jet off to Edinburgh, Scotland, on a 6-month work visa. He'd been hooked on the city while studying there for a semester earlier that year, his senior year of college. After graduating he innocently went back with the sole intention of hanging out with his friends and, ahem, further sampling the local brew.
A few months later in February 2000, an innocent conversation with Sean Keener in Edinburgh led to much more. While traveling Ant wrote his first articles for BootsnAll, on travels in Ireland with a 4-month work visa and then the Edinburgh festivals. In September 2000, Ant moved to Eugene, Oregon, where he worked for BootsnAll as a copywriter and editor until July 2003, when he decided it was time to pursue some different travel and writing dreams.
Ant's a quirky wee guy, with a weakness/obsession for dragons, food, coffee and Earl Grey tea. He has this tendency to bite off ridiculous amounts of activities just to see if he can chew them; in November 2001, for example, he entered a contest to see if he could write a 50,000-word novel in 30 days and he even pulled it off. He's also an incorrigible smart-arse.
The outdoors ranks high on Ant's list of loves about the world, and he's trying to get outside more. Which he really needs to do; he's terribly pale nowadays. Books are ranked right with the outdoors, as is music, mainly classical, and his faves include Beethoven, H.L. Mencken, and e.e. cummings. A year working at a local knife shop has also made him very pretentious about cutlery, and please don't get him started on his Osborne Axis 942SBT.

Don't ask. It's a long story involving elves, tea towels, and a few pints of California microbrew.

From shouting out verse at local poetry slams to plotting travels with his fiance, Ant's always scribbling and soon to be hitting the road again. He's got a soul full of urge to visit all the places he's been reading about on BootsnAll - which is everywhere.
