Gerry Schwartz - Author Biography

I was born and raised in Montreal and remember my fascination with airplane takeoffs and landings from childhood. One of my first flights in the early fifties was on a turbo-prop Viscount of TCA (Trans-Canada-Airlines), later to become Air Canada. In those days, you walked up the stairs on the tarmac (no security!) and the noise on board was pretty loud.

I worked as a guide at Expo '67 - Montreal's World's Fair in 1967 and the travel bug was revitalized. I lived in Israel where I taught secondary English in Haifa and moved to Toronto in 1976. I left teaching early to enjoy writing, meeting new people and visiting off the beaten track places on our planet. This is the best education.

I've visited some 40 countries on five continents - some awesome and memorable places have been Ecuador, Bolivia, Peru, Egypt, Morocco, and the island of Carriacou. I am also a language junkie - speak three fluently, a fourth improving (working on a fifth) and a smattering of well-chosen phrases in other assorted tongues.
