Jeanette Bergman
BootsnAll Photojournalist

Jeanette "Ginch" "please nickname me" Bergman.
Australian born and bred, travel-addicted Jeanette (aka Gingi-Ginchy Bangpants) Bergman - while resisting gathering moss, but collecting countless nicknames on her way - lived and worked in Dublin, Ireland from May 1998 to 2002.

Having done the typically antipodean two-year working holiday stint in the UK from 1995-7 (pulling/consuming pints to fund her European travels), Gingi returned to BrisVegas to re-appreciate her native climate/economy. However nice it was to be reacquainted with family, friends, sunshine and, importantly, VB (though Guinness is a fitting substitute), within a month she was itching to don the backpack again.

Despite her colour-by-numbers effort to satisfy that societal pressure to acquire material possessions and settle, she spent the next 18 months working towards discarding all of it for another overseas sojourn. As she was just young enough to apply for an Irish working holiday visa (viva le Republique!), she returned to the glorious Emerald Isle, which was already a second home, with the intention of staying for the year whilst filling in travel gaps and 'seeing what happens.'

Back in sunny Queensland, Gingi spends a little quality time underground via her job.
Fortunately (as her travel-gap-filling/addiction has become increasingly hard to kick), after pulling a few more pints and answering a few phones, Jeanette landed a gig with a publishing house, who applied for what was to become her first work permit, now renewable annually.

Having just about filled in her European travel gaps, her main focus now is in fulfilling more extensive dream trips: New York City to Seattle, via overland Canada; Istanbul to Cairo; and, once fluent in Spanish, Latin America. Oh yes, and she is constantly writing about her primarily disastrous, though typically comical adventures.

Technically Gingi has a BA in Journalism. She has been known to masquerade as an Arts journalist for a local rag in Brisbane, and she was a copywriter prior to realising the land of DTP/graphic design is a more lucrative means of stocking travel currency. Now back in Australia, she's trying to decide if the place can be "home" again, and as she works and sees whether or not the pining for Eire subsides, she'll see what happens.

But it's still all a means to a travel-inspired end before she gets that 10-book deal with a publisher so she can concentrate on what she really should be doing!
