I'm Selena, a 30-ish Australian born, Canadian raised artist. I grew up in the mild climate of Vancouver and after four years in Montreal I still haven't learned how to walk in the snow without falling on my ass. This year, I'm going to give myself, and my tailbone, a break.
Previous trips to Western Europe, Greece and Australia have whet my appetite for some longer jaunts - but for the past several years I've been too busy paying for school to afford much travel. Now I've finished the degree and there's no more procrastinating. My partner works for an NGO that encourages travel, so the time is right for both of us.
I saved up for this trip (and my student loan repayments) by TAing and teaching at Concordia University, doing some freelance radio work, selling a painting or two and (most importantly, and thank God for tips) slinging pints in a pub. The fact that my partner Hélène has a job that pays a decent salary helps too. On August 1st 2002 we take off for a year's worth of traveling in India, South East Asia and Australia. We've decided to skip the trek in the Himalayas.
