Florida is known for its glamour, its beaches, the sunshine... but camping? Not as much. Florida camping is best on the beach, with the sun shining overhead and a large group of friends enjoying the outdoors together.

Bahia Honda State Park, in the Florida Keys, is considered one of the best beaches in the world and you can book your campground spot just off the beach right here. Fishing, snorkeling and swimming opportunities are plentiful in the warm water of the Gulf of Mexico.

If you are so lucky as to have a boat, there are two boat ramps located in the park that have been noted for their quality and serve many of the area's cigarette boats and larger yachts. Parking can be a little tight, but if you and your group can cram into one vehicle, each campsite comes with one parking spot.

But not all of Florida's campgrounds are on the beach. The Blackwater River campground is located near the Blackwater River and is a national park in addition to being a great camping spot. One of the purest sand-bottom rivers in the world, the campground is a designated canoe route and popular with paddlers of all varieties.

Florida is called "The Sunshine State," but it averages about 50-60 inches of rain a year, so the weather is something to take into consideration when you are planning your camping trip. The wettest parts of the year are in early spring and the summer, but the further south you travel the less you'll have to worry about the weather. As a general rule, the southwest portion of the panhandle receives the least amount of rain.

Florida also has plenty of RV camping spots available most of the year. Special trailer hookups and permits may be required, however, so you should check with the campground about compatibility and availability.
