Place Backpacks in Locker and Wander
Rather than sitting around the train station during long transfers, put your stuff in a locker and wander around the town. (Stay close so you don't get lost!) Train stations sometimes have internet cafes, or the information desk might know about one, so that is another good opportunity for something to do.
