Out and About in Copenhagen

Having Fun
What's fun? I feel lucky to live in a city were we get a lot of good bands. Thursday to Saturday you will always find places with live music.

Check out the big Sunday newspapers or www.aok.dk/Copenhagen/Musik for live music or the big Friday papers for places to go out.

Pumpehuset, Loppen, Den Grå Hal, Vega, Keller Dirk are all names of good places to hear a bit of live music.

Tivoli Garden (City) and Bakken (in Klampenborg, north of Copenhagen) are two fun-fair parks worth a visit. They are only open during summer and the rides are expensive, but both great places. Tivoli especially is very pretty with thousands of small lights in the trees and beautiful flowers everywhere. Bakken has free entry and was built in 1583, which makes it the oldest fun-fair park in the world.

Tivoli has a firework display at midnight Wednesday and Saturday and a rock concert every Friday. Last year, bands like Simply Red, Aqua and Backstreet Boys were some of the names. Check out Danish Kashmir if you get a chance!

Cafés, Bars and Dancing
In the city around Strøget you will find heaps of places to have a drink. I like to go out and I will try to put most of my list here.

Try The Dubliner, a huge Irish Pub with Irish bands and sometimes you even see people dancing on the tables.

Close to The Dubliner you find Café Norden. It's not cheap but the tomato soup is good and very convenient after shopping on Strøget.

Kellerdirk in Frederiksberg has a lot of good cover bands and is located next to a good theater.

Do you like dancing?
Park Café on Østerbro is not bad Friday and Saturday nights. The line to get in can be long, so try and be there before 23:00. The cover is 50 kr. Their Sunday brunch is great too and if the sun is shining ask to sit upstairs outside.

Another good brunch place is Base Camp on Amager: catch bus number 8 or take the bike.

More dancing? Try The Jazz House in the city, same story as Park Café, lots of people, 50 kr and a line to get in.

Like salsa music? Sabor Latino in the city and Columbus on Nørrebro will teach you the salsa steps.

There's heaps more to do, it's just a matter of what you like.
