Café d'Enfer
There are many reasons to love Rue Daguerre located in the 14th arrondissement. One portion of Daguerre has been closed off to car traffic. Its market is one of the best and most famous in the neighborhood. A few intriguing shops include my favorite hat shop, jewelry designers and at least one dress shop worthy of scrutiny. One is more likely to linger at the poissonerie or the fish market than the clothing stores - because Daguerre is first and foremost about food.
After one has stirred up an appetite inhaling fresh summer melons and strawberries in the market place, I would highly recommend dropping into the Café d'Enfer where the staff is very friendly. And the food is sublime.
For a light summer meal we sampled the Assiete d'Enfer which is a chicken and vegetable salad garnished with eggplant, pineapple and peppers. For a more hearty appetite, the pork medallions in a creamy pepper sauce are also recommended. If you are a chocolate fan, don't miss the Petit Enfer dessert which is a a delicious chocolate cake tempered with vanilla ice cream, sinfully rich.
For two main courses, one dessert, and two glasses of wine, we spent 250 francs or approx. 38 Euros.
