Why stay in Warsaw?
Warsaw is the capital city of Poland as well as the largest city in the country. It isn't usually on the itineraries of most European travelers, but those who pay a visit to Warsaw are rewarded handsomely.
Warsaw's charming Old Town is incredibly picturesque, and it's easy to forget the entire area was once obliterated during World War II. It was carefully rebuilt in its original image in the 1950s, and is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Also on UNESCO's list is the Royal Castle in the Old Town. One area whose buildings mostly survived the war is Old Praga. For a leisurely stroll, head to one of Warsaw's many parks and garden spaces - there are two botanical gardens, the Lazienki Royal Gardens, Skaryszewski Park (Warsaw's largest) and Saski Garden with its Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. You can also learn about the courageous efforts of the Polish Home Army to fight off the Nazis in 1944 (they kept the German soldiers at bay for more than 60 days) with a visit to the Warsaw Uprising Museum.
Warsaw is home to many festivals and annual events throughout the year, so if you're planning to visit during one of these events you'll want to book your hostel well in advance. Otherwise, you could end up paying much more than you wanted to for your bed! And keep in mind that "hostels" are no longer only for young backpackers (even if it has "backpackers" in the name!) - they're ideal for any budget-minded traveler who's interested in meeting other travelers. A few Warsaw hostels worth mentioning are highlighted here.
Hostel Helvetia is ten minutes from the Old Town and fifteen minutes from the Palace of Culture and Science. It's also near the city's best nightclubs. Oki Doki Hostel has been recommended in guidebooks, and each room is decorated by a different artist. It's a five minute walk from the best nightclubs.
Jump Inn Hostel is in the city center near a park, 12 minutes walking distance to the main train station. Nathan's Villa Hostel Warsaw is just over a minute's walk from the famous PUNKT nightclub, but also on a quiet courtyard in the city center.
Don't worry if none of these hostels sounds like it's perfect. There are other Warsaw hostels listed here which you can choose from. Keep reading the descriptions until you find the right one.
What else do you need for your trip? Whatever it is, you'll find it here! You can look for international airfare to Warsaw and book it today. You can also read more about what to do and see in the city in our Warsaw Travel Guide.
