Seville Hostel Reservations

Seville, the capital of Andalucia, is an interesting city to visit, because even though you're in the very Catholic Spain, you'll see traces of the years of Muslim rule everywhere you look in Seville. Even the cathedral's bell tower was once a minaret for a mosque.

The Cathedral of Seville (one of the largest cathedrals in the world) and its beautiful Moorish bell tower (called La Giralda, and offering great city views from the top) grace the spot of a former 12th century mosque, in fact. La Giralda is all that remains of that former building, and is now the symbol of Seville. Other buildings you'll see in the Moorish style include the 12th century palace called Real Alcazar, which was built by someone with the unfortunate nickname of Pedro the Cruel. We do not want to know how he earned that name.

In addition to its Moorish architecture, Seville is also famous for being the birthplace of Flamenco. You can see great peformances of the city's signature dance in the Cultural Centre and sometimes other places (ask around). And, though it's not for the faint of heart (or the animal lover), Seville is also famous for its bull fights. If you'd rather not see the actual spectacle, you can visit the arena even when there's nothing going on as well.

Seville's prices for accommodations are slightly higher than the rest of Anadlucia, and they fluctuate with the high and low seasons. Not all accommodations come with air conditioning; during the sweltering summer months, you'll want to make sure yours does. Also keep in mind that "hostels" aren't just for young backpackers anymore - they're perfect for budget-minded people who want to meet fellow travelers.
