Airfare to Bonaire
Since it doesn’t have many resorts and it’s quite far from North America, it can be challenging to find discount airfare into Bonaire. This part of the Dutch Antilles is not one of the most popular Caribbean destinations so airfare to Bonaire can be on the high side. The country’s main airport is the Flamingo International Airport (code: BON) and it’s only served by a few main carriers.
Which airlines have flights to Bonaire?
American Airlines offers frequent flights to Bonaire on their American Eagle subsidiary connecting through Puerto Rico. Since most major cities have flights into American’s Puerto Rico hub, that is usually your only stop and is also usually the best airfare to Bonaire. Other airlines connect through Air Jamaica in Montego Bay, so if there seems to be no discount airfare to Bonaire this is something to try.
Continental has weekend flights to Bonaire through their Houston hub, but with so few flights it’s hard to find cheap airfare unless you book way in advance. KLM has flights to Bonaire through Amsterdam, so Europeans usually only have to stop once there on the way.
Saving money on your flight to Bonaire
If you are hoping to go around Christmas or New Years, you’d better book your flight early since this is peak season. High season goes all the way through March, so flying in early December or in April can be a good way to find good airfares.
The American Eagle flights through Puerto Rico usually all start at the same price, but weekends fill up first so those flights become more expensive. If you have the flexibility, try flying into Bonaire on Tuesday or Wednesday for the lowest airfare in season.
