Airfare to Haiti
Being a large country, it can be surprisingly easy to find discount airfare into Haiti. The country doesn’t get too much tourism due to the sketchy security situation there, but the large population and many expats means competition is high so airfares are often low. The country’s main airport is the Toussaint Louverture International Airport (code: PAP) located in Port-au-Prince.
Which airlines have flights to Haiti?
American dominates this market from the US. They have frequent service into the country through Miami and Ft. Lauderdale, as well as New York City. No other US airlines have direct service into Haiti, so it’s surprising that American often has low airfares with no competition.
Air Canada flies into Haiti from Montreal, and a number of small local Caribbean airlines also have frequent flights into Port-au-Prince, but they aren’t usually much help in getting good airfare from North America. Other than perhaps Puerto Rico and the Bahamas, Haiti is one of the cheaper countries to reach in the Caribbean.
Saving money on your flight to Haiti
If you are planning on coming during the peak season around Christmas and New Years, you should definitely book well ahead. Airfares can be high and prices usually continue up until all the seats are gone. Flying midweek is also a key to lower airfare. Weekend flights usually start at the same price, but they get booked up first, so especially if you are coming without much notice, try to fly on Tuesday or Wednesday for the lowest airfare.
