Airfare to St. Maarten
As the second largest hub in the Caribbean behind Puerto Rico, it can actually be quite easy to find discount airfare into St. Maarten. The main point of entry is the Princess Juliana International Airport (code: SXM), and it handles almost all the traffic for the entire island, including St. Martin, the French half.
Which airlines have flights to St. Maarten?
Nearly all the major US and European airlines fly into St. Maarten, although American Airlines seems to offer the most flights and are often the cheapest. St. Maarten is a major transfer hub for flights to lots of small nearby islands, so they are spoiled for choice of ways to get in.
Air Canada has flights from Toronto in season, and many small airlines operate out of St. Maarten as well, so it can be a great base for someone interested in island hopping. This being a Dutch island, there are many non-stop flights from Amsterdam, but Paris also has plenty of incoming flights, especially for those people moving on to St. Martin.
Saving money on your flight to St. Maarten
The entire region has its peak season in the weeks around Christmas and New Years, so if you want to fly then you are best off booking as early as possible, since fares just keep going up. January through March are the high season, so coming in early December or April can also be a way of getting lower airfare. If you are looking to go on short notice you are best off flying on either Tuesday or Wednesday since weekend flights tend to book up first.
