Airfare to US Virgin Islands
p>Even as one of the most popular island groups in the Caribbean, it can be challenging finding discount airfare to the US Virgin Islands. The busiest airport there is Henry E. Rohlsen Airport (code: STX) on St. Croix., but the Cyril E. King Airport (code: STT) on St. Thomas also has good airfares. You can either take a short-hop flight on a local airline to get to St. Johns, or take the 20-minute ferry ride from St. Thomas, but there are no long-haul flights.
Which airlines have flights into the US Virgin Islands?
All the major carriers have flights into at least one of the above mentioned airports. American Airlines often has the lowest airfare on their flights through their Miami and Puerto Rico hubs, but US Airways, Delta, and Continental all have competitive airfares.
From Europe you can get direct flights from London into St. Thomas at times, but transferring through Miami, Puerto Rico, or St. Maarten often have lower airfares and more frequent service.
Saving money on your flight into the US Virgin Islands
Check both airports because it’s easy to get around once you are in this small island chain. Christmas and New Years are the peak times, so if you plan on going then it’s best to book as far in advance as possible. January through March are high season, so going just before or after that can lead to lower airfare. And if you are coming on short notice you should try flights on Tuesdays or Wednesdays, as the weekend flights tend to sell out first.
