Las Palmas de Gran Canaria is one of the largest cities in Spain and the largest on the Canary Islands. Aside from the beaches, tourists also come here to see the superb Catedral de Santa Ana, the oldest districts of the city and for the vibrant night life.

Plan your flight in mid-week. Mondays are typically used by business travelers, while the weekends are used by leisure travelers who want to spend as much time as possible on their vacation. So, choose to fly on Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday and don’t be afraid to choose rather “weird” hours (very early in the morning or late at night).

Fly to other Spanish islands and then take a boat to Gran Canaria. You can also fly into Barcelona or Lisbon and take a low-cost flight from there into Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.

Alternatively, you can fly into a major European hub, such as Amsterdam, and then choose a no frills European carrier to fly into Gran Canaria.

Avoid flying on the national carrier, Iberia, or other major airlines, which will always be higher. Less-known airlines, such as Air Europa, Ryanair and Air Berlin also fly to Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.

The best time to visit the Canary Islands, if you want to save some money, is from November to mid-December and from April to May. Avoid the Carnival season (February and March), the Easter rush, the peak summer season (July and August) and the time between Christmas and New Year’s. Typically, the islands are most crowded between December and March.

Summary of Money Saving Tips:

  • fly during the middle of the week
  • plan your vacation during the low season (November to mid-December, April or May)
  • fly into other Spanish island or into a large European hub close by and then choose a low-cost flight or ferry
  • check out other lesser-know airlines
