Salta is the capital of the province with the same name. The western part of the province is in the Andean Northwest region. Several museums and churches are worth your visit while you are here.

The city is served by an airport located at 8 km from the city center. One of the airlines serving the airport is Aerolíneas Argentinas and it offers flights to/from Buenos Aires.

If your budget is on the low side, you can also get to Salta by bus from all major cities in Argentina. It takes 19 hours to get from Buenos Aires to Salta by bus (as opposed to little over 2 hours by plane) but the ticket is very cheap (about 300 pesos which is about $25USD).

The majority of travelers arrive in Salta via Buenos Aires by bus rather than by airplane. And it is a good option for you as well. If you fly from New York you have two choices of airlines: Taca Intl Air (cheapest) and LAN Airlines, while if you fly from London (Europe), Iberia is the only cheap choice.

In order to save money, make sure to book your ticket in advance and avoid flying during weekends and peak travel season.
