Airfare to Joao Pessoa, Brazil
Joao Pessoa is one of the oldest cities in Brazil, located on the northeastern coast of the country. It is also the easternmost city in the Americas, reason for which it got the nickname of “the city where the sun rises first”. Joao Pessoa is considered the second greenest city in the world (first being Paris, France).
The city is served by an airport, located about 25 km away from the city center. The airport receives domestic flights and the airlines flying here include TAM Linhas Aereas and Gol. It is a small airport and, in some cases, you’ll find better connections into the nearby Recife airport. Once you get to Recife, there are hourly buses to Joao Pessoa (the journey takes about 2 hours).
Recife airport receives daily flights from Sao Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Brasilia as well as Atlanta, Miami (USA), Lisbon (Portugal), Madrid (Spain), Paris (France) and Milan (Italy). The airlines serving Recife include: TAM Linhas Aereas, American Airlines and TAP Portugal.
However, it might cheaper to fly into either Brasilia or Sao Paulo and then into Joao Paessoa. The rates for round trip flights into either large city are comparable (slightly more expensive for the flight from Sao Paulo).
It does pay to spend some time figuring out which large city is cheaper to fly into. Also, make sure to book your flight in advance and avoid flying during the weekends and major holidays.
