Airfare to Manaus, Brazil
Manaus is located on the Rio Negro, just a few miles before it meets the Rio Solimões to form the Amazon River proper. The city seems to be a copy of Paris, with several monuments resembling their original counterparts in the French capital. Teatro Amazonas is a copy of the Grand Opera of Paris and Mercado Municipal is the copy of Les Halles in Paris. Aside from the beautiful buildings, the city also offers excellent beaches, a beautiful waterfall and there’s a national park to explore as well. Plus, there are endless possibilities to spend some time in nature, whether you want to explore the Amazon by boat or go on a jungle tour.
Manaus is served by an airport which receives daily flights from major Brazilian cities. It is located about four hours by plane from Sõo Paulo and Rio de Janeiro. If you fly from the United States, you should know that TAM Linhas Aereas and United Airlines offer direct flights from Miami. The cheaper tickets are offered by TAM, but United also offers connections from several other American cities so choosing the right airline for you depends on where you fly out of.
If you want to save some money, keep your eyes on the airlines’ offers and if you are a member of their frequent flier programs don’t be shy to use the saved points for discounts. Plan to fly mid-week and avoid the peak travel season (summer). Make sure to book your flight in advance to benefit from the best rates.
Summary of Money Saving Tips:
- Fly mid-week
- Book your holiday during the off-peak season
- Consider flying into Fortaleza, Brazil and traveling overland to Manaus via train or bus
- Look for flights that go through large cities, with many flights
- Check out carriers besides the national airline – they may undercut the monopolistic competition
