Learn to Speak Spanish
If you are looking to learn a language that you will most definitely be able to use, then Spanish is probably a safe bet. As one of the most widely spoken languages in the world, Spanish is the official language for 20 countries and is the first language for around 350 million people worldwide. Spanish is widely spoken throughout the Americas as well as in its European country of origin. An increasing number of industries in the English-speaking world are requiring many employees to be fluent in the language for certain positions, and those traveling to these regions for enjoyment will also be highly motivated to learn before they go because surprisingly few residents of these countries are fluent in English. While grouped as a Romance Language along with French, Italian and Portuguese, Spanish is a notoriously easier language to learn than its cousin languages. Phonetic and logical, with Spanish what you see is usually what you get. Unlike French, Spanish is a language easier to learn by sight as you pronounce each written letter. While new Spanish speakers sometimes have trouble mastering the many and nuanced verb tenses, pronunciation and spelling tend to be fairly easy to pick up on.
There are many ways to learn Spanish. Of course, taking some sort of introductory Spanish course at a local community college or getting conversational Spanish lessons through a program like Berlitz can be a good way to start. Hiring a private tutor or instructor and/or joining a local Spanish conversation group can also be a good way to get started. From there, the best way to quickly pick up on Spanish (or any language for that matter) is to totally immerse yourself in it. Travel to a Spanish speaking country and learn how to communicate. Eat, sleep and dream in Spanish. If you can't make it our of the country, there are luckily many communities within the United States with large numbers of Spanish speakers where you can practice your new language skills.. A few weeks speaking Spanish on a daily basis with native speakers is worth a year or more in the classroom. Of course, if you don't have the opportunity to travel and immerse yourself in order to learn Spanish, programs like Rosetta Stone can help you work on your pronunciation and accent while learning vocabulary and basic grammar.
