Where to Get More Info

Traveler Services
The Universal Currency Converter
Whether you need to convert Algerian Dinars or Zambian Kwachas, this site can tell you how much it amounts to in US Dollars (or anywhere else for that matter).

San Francisco Convention & Visitors Bureau
Although it is a highly commercial site, you can find some good basic information about the standard attractions, as well as hotels, restaurants, and shopping, if you don't mind navigating through the flashing banner ads and large corporate logos that dominate most pages. Just remember, this organization's job is to get as much money as possible from each of you during your visit to what they call (rather presumptuously, in my opinion) "Everybody's Favorite City".

Transportation
San Francisco Municipal Railway (MUNI)
With the exception of a short stretch of BART, MUNI is the exclusive provider of public transportation within the city limits; whether it's a cable car, bus, light rail train, or vintage streetcar, you can find a detailed map, route description, schedule, and fare for it on this excellent site.

Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART)
Like MUNI, BART also has a very informative and easy to use website that can provide maps, schedules, fares, and transfer info for travel to the greater Bay Area.

San Francisco Bay Area Transit Information
A veritable font of links, from ferries to local bus services in the greater Bay Area. If it's a transit organization, and it has a website, there's a link to it here.

San Francisco International Airport
A very thorough site; great for finding transportation to and from the airport.

Oakland International Airport
Pretty good information, but not as pretty as SFO's site.

Theater and the Arts
San Francisco Arts Monthly
"The most comprehensive monthly listings of arts and cultural events in San Francisco"

Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco
This is the site for both the de Young Museum in Golden Gate Park (closed for an extended time for renovation after December 31, 2000) and the Legion of Honor. Good information on current exhibits, as well as prices and hours, etc.

San Francisco Museum of Modern Art

Yerba Buena Center for the Arts
A center for theater, dance, visual arts, film and video, the website can provide dates, times, and prices for the many cultural events scheduled year round.

San Francisco Symphony

San Francisco Ballet

San Francisco Opera

American Conservatory Theater
Possibly the finest theater company in San Francisco presenting mostly mainstream dramas.

Magic Theatre
Self billed as "100% Fresh Theatre", this company is not afraid to show experimental work, and has been the debut site of many of Sam Shepherd's plays.

Music
The Fillmore

The Great American Music Hall

Pollstar.com
This is a great comprehensive website that can tell you about just about any concert (even small club dates), by city, venue, or artist.

BASS (now known as tickets.com)
One of two major ticket distributors for events of all kinds in the Bay Area.

TicketMaster
The other major ticket distributor.
