Toronto, Ontario - April-May 2001

Spring is here, at least officially, and Torontonians emerge from their cocoons. Here are highlights of goings-on in April and May 2001. For more, go to www.toronto.com and click on "events listings".

April

Apr. 6-15: The National Home Show
This is North America's largest of its kind and features over 800 exhibitors. You can get some great ideas in renovating, decorating and landscaping. Check out www.dmgworldmedia.com for more details.

Apr. 13: Good Friday (Easter)
A major holiday so check on what's open. With most tourist services, it's usual hours.

Apr. 20-22: The Travel and Leisure Show
This is the 15th annual show. With now close to 300 exhibitors - countries, regions, wholesalers, and products - it's a great way to meet and discover new destinations.

Apr. 26-May 3: The Toronto Jewish Film Festival
A big success since its inception some 10 years ago, it features shorts and full-length films in different languages from around the globe. Check their web site www.tjff.com for this year's venue and film choices.

May

May 1-31: Contact 2000 Photography Festival
This month celebrates Canadian and International photography around the city at various venues. See www.ContactPhoto.com for more information.

May 17-27: Inside Out: 11th Annual Lesbian and Gay Film & Video Festival
A 10-day festival of shorts, documentaries and feature films. Click on www.InsideOut.on.ca.

May 20-27: Milk International Children's Festival
Performing arts for children, featuring artists from near and far countries at Harbourfront. See their site for details: www.harbourfront.on.ca.

May 21: Victoria Day
This Monday is the first long weekend of summer and one for evening fireworks over many locations in the city. Banks and other commerce are closed; check the local newspapers for what is open on this day.

May 26-27: Doors Open
This is a weekend dedicated to the heritage buildings of Toronto. Toronto's most historic and architecturally significant buildings open their doors to the public for no admission charge. Check out www.doorsopen.org for a complete listing.
