Well, Toronto didn't quite make the cut for the 2008 Olympics, but Fall is approaching and the events in Toronto are running full tilt.

  • Sept. 1-3
    Canadian International Air Show
    The last days of the CNE (Canadian National Exhibition) are highlighted by the majesty of commercial and military aircraft overhead. This events signals the end of vacation season and the return to work and school. Labour Day is on the Monday and much is closed, but not in the tourist areas.

  • Sept. 3-9
    PGA Bell Canada Open
    The best of the PGA golf tour meet at Glen Abbey Golf Club for this respected annual event. For details, go to www.Bell.ca/CdnOpen

  • Sept. 6-15
    Toronto International Film Festival
    Variety magazine in L.A. calls it the best filmfest in North America. Toronto celebrates 10 days of Canadian and international cinema with big stars, directors and media-types in attendance.   • Sept. 7-9
    Canadian Hockey Show
    The 2001 edition brings together everything about Hockey under one roof over three jam-packed days. This is the premier hockey consumer show in Canada. See www.thehockeyshow.com

  • Sept. 8
    Toronto Celtfest
    This one-day event is a mixture of Celtic entertainment, food and a marketplace in the historic setting oh Fort York. There is also entertainment for all fans. See www.FoodandHeritage.com for further details.

  • Sept. 27-30
    The Fall Home Show
    This is a show with over 350 exhibitors featuring the latest in design, décor and renovation - both inside and out. Check out this web site for more information: www.dmgworldmedia.com


  • October 5-8
    The International Home Show
    This annual mammoth event is now in its 14th year. It includes renovation ideas, builders, room displays of furniture and accessories and even gourmet food items. Look at www.home-show.net for more details.

  • October 11-14
    Toronto Ski & Snowboard Show
    200 exhibitors fill the Automotive Building at Exhibition Place for four days of displays and entertainment to do with skiing and snowboarding. See their web site at www.sportsmensshows.com

  • October 14
    Canadian International Marathon
    Now in its seventh year, this events expects to attract 7000-8000 runners from 25-30 countries. Check out www.RunToronto.com

  • Oct. 18-27
    International Festival of Authors
    In its 22nd year, this event continues to entertain literary followers with readings from current authors of their latest works. See www.Icomm.ca/ifoa

  • Oct. 19-21
    Canadian Pet Expo

  • Oct. 19-22
    Creative Sewing & Needlework Festival
    This is the largest consumer show of its kind in the world. It features sewing, knitting, quilting, embroidery, crafts and more. See www.csnf.com
