Victoria's Coming Events Sept-Nov 2003
Sunday September 21: The Feast of Fields, one of Vancouver island's food and wine events, happens on Sunday September 21 from 2-6pm. The Feast of Fields is a gastronomic picnic. Featuring over fifty of Vancouver Island's restaurants, inns and resorts paired with British Columbia's wineries and microbreweries, it's a celebratory tribute to local food producers. This year's Feast of Fields takes place at Providence Farm in the town of Duncan, a short drive from Victoria.
Founded by the Sisters of St. Anne, Providence Farm has a history of teaching and helping the community and improving local food for almost 150 years. Proceeds from this year's Feast of Fields will be split between the FarmFolk/CityFolk Society and the Kitchen Restoration Project at Providence Farm. For more information visit www.engelerfarm.com.

Mid October: Salmon run at Goldstream Provincial Park, 2930 Trans Canada Highway
- In Goldstream, salmon appear about mid-October, and may be seen for about nine weeks, the dates varying from year to year.
- Every autumn millions of Pacific salmon forge their way up the myriad streams of the Pacific Northwest to spawn and die.
- Of the five kinds of North American Pacific salmon it is the Chum salmon that is most abundant in this river, though you may also see some Coho and Chinook salmon, as well as the Steelhead and the Cutthroat trout.
- The Freeman King Visitor Centre is open daily during the peak of the salmon run. Naturalists are there to answer your questions and there are displays to tell more about the salmon. Access to the Centre is by a 10 minute walk downstream from the picnic ground.
