Featured Country: Czech Republic
The Central European "it" country a few years ago, the Czech Republic has become a backpacker's haven. With cheap lodging, cheap food and even cheaper beer, Prague, the nation's capital, overflows in the summer. Home to 10 million people, this landlocked nation southeast of Germany is comprised of 13 "regions" and one "capital city."
In 1989, Czechoslovakia began its transition from Communism to Democracy. The process was called the 'Velvet Revolution' because there were no casualties. In 1993, Czechoslovakia split into the Czech Republic and Slovakia, marking the second time in the past 100 years that the country has "disappeared". In August of 2002, terrible flooding damaged historic sites and killed more than 85 people. Most of the attractions have since been re-opened. The Czech Republic is not part of the E.U.- monetary transactions require the use of the Czech crown (Kc).
The standard greeting in the Czech Republic is "nazdar ." Czech is the official language, although English and German are spoken in tourist areas like Praha (Prague).
Well, those are a few nuts and bolts. Keep reading for more info on Czech Republic, as well as other travelers' experiences in the country.

The Czech Republic's Top Attractions
What makes the Czech Republic interesting? Why do thousands of travelers head to the Czech Republic every year? Check out our list of the top three "must do" attractions!
- Prague
Although it's not as cheap as it was a few years ago, backpackers still welcome Prague's prices on lodging, food and drink. The city boasts an impressive, lively bridge, a vibrant town square and thousands of travelers looking for a good time. Prague was also relatively untouched by WWII bombs, so much of the old architecture is still in tact.
- Kutna Hora
You'll have to take a train about an hour outside of the city, but it's worth it to visit the ossuary 'Bone Church' in Kunta Hora. When the Black Plague occurred, the church cemetary was overrun with the bones of 40,000 people. A monk decided to use some of the remains to decorate the ossuary. Highlights include a chandelier that includes every bone in the human body. Check out the gothic St.Barbara Cathedral as well.
- Ceský Krumlov
Where the backpackers go when they're tired of Prague. With a historical center on UNESCO's World Heritage list and one of the largest castles in Europe, it's a good place to rest up for a few days. Check out the Vltava, the river that flows through the center of town. The adventurous can hop on a tube and float down it during the warm summer months.
