Get Excited: Reads and Links

Launceston
Tasmania, Australia
By Lynn Holmgren

I only spent one night in Launceston, but it is definitely a city worth getting to know. There are several hostels in Launceston. Some of these are listed at Launceston Hostels. One of these is Metro Backpackers, not to be confused with Launceston Backpackers where I stayed. Although Metro Backpackers is more centrally located, this also means more noise, so if you are looking for a good night's rest before setting out on the track, I recommend Launceston Backpackers, which is located next to a quiet park on the outskirts of the city. It is a clean and comfortable hostel, and reception can book transportation to and from the Overland Track for you.

Launceston Backpackers is a one minute walk from Woolworths, a great place to stock up on food supplies; open 7am-12pm, 7 days a week. The hostel is also a 3 minute walk from one of Launceston's more popular pubs, Irish Murphy's. A ten minute walk will get you to the city center or the Cataract Gorge, Launceston's most famous attraction.
