UK Student Visas

1. UK Student Visa
The UK student visa (tier 4 study visa) allows you to study and work once you are studying for at least 6 months and are offered a place in a UK educational institute. The UK is recognized as having some of the world’s best colleges and universities.
If your course is under 6 months you may instead enter the UK on a visitor visa however you will not be able to work in this case on the visitor visa.

Process for applying for your UK student visa

  1. You should ensure that your provider is listed on the Register of Sponsors Licensed Under the Points-Based System.
  2. Complete the application form and return to VisaFirst by fax or email including:
    • Copy of the University Acceptance Letter; *You can ask your college to post this to VisaFirst’s UK address where they will send it to you securely.
    • Copies of the qualification documents listed on the Acceptance letter;
    • Copy of evidence of paid tuition fees;
    • Copy of evidence of maintenance funds.
  3. VisaFirst will check the documents to insure that everything is in order.
  4. Once ready you will have your biometric appointment booked.
  5. After you attend the biometric appointment, you need to submit your application, including all the supporting documents (originals), with the nearest British High Commission. Your student visa will normally be ready within 15 working days of your application being received at the high commission.

2. UK Bank Account
You will need a UK bank account in order to work in the UK. You will also need UK utility bills in your name with your UK address. Without these it will take 6-8 weeks to have your bank account opened after you arrive.

Using the bank account service you will also save more than US$200 sending money to the UK based on better exchange rates and lower transfer fees.

3. UK National Insurance Number
