South Island
Lord of the Rings Fans, take note. New Zealand's South Island is where most of the filming for this epic took place. Crusising Milford Sound, swimming with the dolphins in Kaikoura and bungee jumping in Queenstown are just a few of the things to keep you occupied on the South Island. Less populated of the two, the South Island is confronted by frigid artic air on the west coast, so be forewarned!
There is no other way to glorify the country of New Zealand without mentioning its world-famous Nevis Bungy Jump, located in Queenstown. Sailing downward at a speed of 128 kmph, for a distance of 134 meters is a thrilling activity not many locations can offer. In addition, this country of friendly Kiwi's offers beauty in the rarest of forms. With the Fox Glacier rapidly melting away in Franz Joseph, an exhilarating half or full day hike up the nose is an opportunity not many may ever have!
While New Zealand is a stomping ground for those seeking the unique thrill of a cable-suspended bungy-jump, a serendipitous skydive over Mt. Cook, or a nutty body surf down the cerulean rapids of the Karawaru, it is equally appealing to those fascinated by a mountainous landscape and the unique Kiwi culture. Did you know the ratio of sheep to people is 14:1?
