The Mindful Traveler
Review by Mary Keener

Click here to buy this book The Mindful Traveler (my italics) is the attentive traveler, the traveler who is interested in depth and meaning. The author provides a method to achieve this level. Through journalizing, visualization exercises and other means, he points a way to enhance your travel for focus, clarity and even passion. But if you just want more out of your journey without the nuts and bolts, you'll benefit from reading Jim Currie's memorable, entertaining and instructive book.

The author gives practical advice on how to get along with your travelmates, how to care for your possessions, how to avoid ill health and how to meet people. Using your Buddha, your "spontaneous self", you will enliven your way, renew and enrich yourself and others. Learn how to capture your thoughts on the run and add insight to them when more time is available.

Each chapter begins with short reflections in the form of quotes. I favor these appetizers for the intellect. They may change your perspective, provide another viewpoint and help you reach your goal. Some chapters have these quotes interspersed throughout and some have cartoons that always bring at least a smile, if not a good belly laugh.

Enhance your life along with your travel. Take what you want and can and put aside what needs to be studied further. The Mindful Traveler is a good companion to have on your path - a bridge for your outer and inner worlds.
