Mission
TEFL International is a non-profit international training organization that creates intercultural opportunities for our customers through teacher education, language training, camps and internships.

We strive to be a fun, creative, responsive, culturally sensitive, high value company that focuses ultimately upon individual growth and customer satisfaction.

Oversight
TEFL International is externally validated and moderated by IATQUO (International Association of TESOL Qualifying Organizations) and certified to meet international standards (more than six hours of observed teaching practice and over 100 hours of classroom time).

We regularly invite visits from industry professionals including, most recently, Sandra Silberstein of University of Washington.

Credits

Credits have been arranged for matriculated students of several US universities including University of Washington. If you wish to obtain university credit please Email us and we will work with your university.

TEFL International is partnered with Burapha University to offer a full MA TESOL.

Key Personnel

Bruce Veldhuisen, Founder

Mr. Veldhuisen is the founder of TEFL International and has been Course Director of language schools and TESOL courses in Hong Kong and Thailand for the past eight years. He holds an Masters in Business Administration, a Bachelors of Science in International Relations and Economics, and a Trinity College London TESOL certificate.

David Hopkins, Director of Academics

David Hopkins holds a Masters degree in Teaching English as a Foreign Language and in Intercultural Management from the School for International Training. He has taught, developed, managed, and done teacher training in language programs in Latin America, the Middle East, Africa, and Asia for over three decades. His most recent position before becoming TEFL International's Director of Academics was as the Course Director at the AUA Language Center in Bangkok.

History

• Jan 1998 - TEFL International is established as a Trinity TESOL Certificate course


• Jan 2000 - After quickly becoming one of the largest and most successful Trinity courses in the world, TEFL International, one of the founding members of IATQUO, becomes independent


• Dec 2000 - University of Washington becomes the first US university to grant credit to matriculated student for completion of the TEFL International course


• May 2001 - TEFL International opens a center offering TESOL Certificate courses in Zhuhai, PRC, in cooperation with the Gateway Language Village


• Nov 2001 - Ban Phe course doubles its capacity to allow as many as 32 students to study in two simultaneous courses


• Feb 2002 - Via Lingua Phuket changed its affiliation and became a TEFL International course


• Mar 2002 - TEFL International begins preparations to open three courses in the summer of 2002


• Jul 2002 - Seville, Spain and Rome, Italy are added to TEFL International's evergrowing list of course locations


• Aug 2002 - TEFL International opens its English Camp in Ban Phe (www.campinternational.com)


• Mar - Aug 2003 - The Office of Primary Education, Ministry of Education, Thailand hires TEFL International to train 1,000 Primary Teachers in English Teaching Methodology


• July 2003 - TEFL International opens Rennes, France center


• Aug 2003 - TEFL International opens Alexandria, Egypt center


• Sep 2003 - TEFL International partners with Burapha University to offer an M.Ed in TESOL


• Aug 2003 - TEFL International opens center in Seoul, South Korea


• Feb 2004 - TEFL International opens its first ESL school in Bangkok


• Apr 2004 - TEFL International opens ESL and TESOL center in Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam


• Oct 2005 - TEFL International opens TESOL center in Prague, Czech Republic
