Internships/Service Learning Programs
TEFL International's Service Learning Programs combine a 4 week intensive TESOL Certificate course followed by a volunteer internship wherein participants receive practical work experience in an foreign-based business, local school, Non-Government Organization (NGO) or community-based organization.
We have affiliations with a variety of companies and organizations from diverse academic and professional fields where the internship portion of the Service Learning Programs can be completed. We offer credit and non-credit based programs. Many universities offer credit for completion of our programs and we will work with you and your school to determine if receiving credit is an option for you.
After completing the TESOL Course, students will have an opportunity to travel for a week or more in their host country, then complete a 4-10 week internship in an organization of your choosing (upon availability) to practice the skills acquired in the course and provide whatever services are required by the institution for whom you are working. Though most of our internships are focused on teaching English, we have other opportunities wherein students can receive practical experience in a foreign work environment.
TEFL International also provides additional learning opportunities and placement services that help the program participants prepare for foreign study, travel, work, or research. In all cases, we will work closely with you to determine the best program for each respective program participant.
The cost of the program (not including airfare, food, lodging for the internship component or travel) is generally $1,890-1,990 ($1,590 or $1,690 - depending on location - for the TESOL course plus $300 for the internship placement and facilitation), though costs may fluctuate from internship to internship. Some of the internship components will include accommodation while others will not. This cost covers all TESOL training, placement assistance, evaluation, and private, air-conditioned accommodation during the 4-week course. Timing can be arranged to coincide with university schedules. Please consult our Service Learning Coordinator to discuss a program that is best for you.
