Soul Surfer in Europe
By Mike Jones

Wednesday, May 17th
Last night I got to experience a definite May monsoon, Dutch style! I was camping in the noord just north of the city across a ferry and about a mile walk north from the ferry landing. It cost 21 guilders for the night and was a good break from the hustle and bustle of the city.

People in the noord don't speak a lick of English but I am starting to speak a little Dutch myself. I am going back there for one more night then I'll be back in Bob's youth hostel for the weekend. The weekend nights at Bob's are great. I know all the people who run the place and they all like us Texans.

Today I guess I'm going to spend with the two girls from Nebraska and a guy named Robert from England. Oh funny ass story....yesterday the two girls and I went to a grocery store in the noord and bought cheese and fruit and juice and had to walk through the city for nearly three hours....by the time we got back to the camp site the brie cheese the girls bought was completely melted in one of their bags.....WHAT A WASTE!!!

About 7pm last night a huge storm hit and the leaves from the trees were falling down and it looked like a damn blizzard...got some good pictures of that!...then it started raining, or should I say pouring!!! We spent the remainder of the night in the tent. I was sooo tired I fell asleep shortly after and when I woke up this morning it was cold as hell outside!! Just like Texas, one minute hot and steamy the next cold as hell!!!

Well, I am off to do some more shopping and rent one of these fine specimens of a bicycle and tour the countryside this evening.

PS - We Americans are very lazy compared to these people and very closed minded....the States could learn a lot from this culture...the cops actually do their jobs too!
