Tuscany is dotted with lovely hill towns which are all nice to explore, but some of them really stand out - San Gimignano is one of them. It's a popular day trip from surrounding cities, but to really experience the quiet in the town (when all the day trippers leave!), you'll need to have a San Gimignano vacation rental.
The majority of the San Gimignano vacation rentals are country estates, villas or farm houses just outside the city. Most of them have commanding views of the Tuscan countryside, and some of them even have perks like private swimming pools. These properties are the ideal way to feel like you've got your own Tuscan dream coming true every morning when you look out your window! There are also a few apartments right in the historic center of the town, too, which just might make you feel like you've stepped back in time to the medieval era - in a good way, of course.
San Gimignano just oozes charm, even during the day when it's full of sight-seers. It's perched on a hill, so you'll get excellent views in every direction. And the town's famous towers make the skyline lovely from a distance, too - so if your vacation rental in San Gimignano is outside the historic town center, you'll get to enjoy the great view of the town itself! There are some pretty churches to see, and lots of nice leather markets, but mainly the town is just a lovely place to wander and soak in the Tuscan sun.
The town isn't on Italy's train network, so you'll need to rent a car or catch a bus to get to your vacation rental in San Gimignano. It's not a bad home base, however (especially if you have a car), for seeing more of the Tuscan countryside and exploring the famous Chianti region. You can even turn Florence and Siena into day trips if you like.
