You can visit the site of the first successful flight in Kitty Hawk, and see the majestic lighthouse at Cape Hatteras or the other lighthouses on the Outer Banks. You can contemplate the mystery of the disappearance of an entire colony of early English settlers on Roanoke Island and see a dramatic performance of what life was like more than 400 years ago.
If you'd prefer to stay closer to your vacation rental in Corolla, however, you can. The beaches are excellent places to while away the hours, surfing and swimming or just lying in the sun. There are also fantastic golf courses right around Corolla, in case you want to play a few rounds. If you've just got leisurely days of shopping in mind, the county is full of great antique shops as well as specialty markets. And if you'd like to get a look at some local wildlife, be sure to get a tour out to see the herd of Corolla wild horses.
