Coffee Shops & Cybercafes - Eugene, Oregon Travel Guide

Eugene has a wide variety of coffee shops to cater for any type of mood. From the hustle of Full City during the morning rush to the laid-back impromptu music sessions at Out Of The Fog. All offer pastries and buns to go with the coffee and some have a full-fledged menu. These coffee shops are listed in order of our preference.

There are many more smaller cafes that sell coffee, but these are our favourite specialist coffee houses. Some of these companies, like Starbucks and Allann Bros, have more than one location in Eugene. We have listed the most popular and more interesting ones.
* - denotes a cybercafe, so you can get wired in more ways than one.

Allann Bros Beanery and Coffeehouse
152 W.5th Ave & 2465 Hilyard Street, Eugene
Their coffee and tea is excellent, but you really have to try their smoothies and coffee coolers. They are awesome. It's a very spacious store with lots of wood and ample seating. If we had been asked, we would have agreed when it was voted Best Place to Go Alone to Think, Read or Write. Don't think it is full of sad folks sitting by themselves, though. There is a real mix at this coffee house.

Barry's Espresso and Bakery
57 W 29th Ave (Inside the Willamette Plaza)
A recent move into the Rite Aid pharmacy building on 29th and Willamette hasn't deterred the loyal following of Barry's Espresso and Bakery. This south Eugene staple provides a variety of specialty coffee drinks, teas and other beverages along with a delectable array of New York-style baked goods. Offering indoor and outdoor seating, Barry's is the perfect place to go for a good chat and a great nosh.

The Buzz Coffeehouse
Erb Memorial Union Lower Level (Corner of 13th and University Street)
Located in the Erb Memorial Union, at the heart of the University of Oregon campus, The Buzz coffeehouse is a source of activity from opening until closing. Students come breezing through, grabbing their third mocha of the morning before they have to sit through a two-hour lecture, while others curl up with a book or homework assignment on one of the comfy couches. The all-student counter staff throws on their favorite music while they serve up Torrefazione Italia blended coffee, specialty drinks, teas, juices and soda. Sandwiches, soups, salads and pastries are also on the menu. Attached to the EMU recreation center, offering students some wind-down time with pool tables and an arcade, The Buzz is a favorite university hangout.

The Buzz Net Café*
1860 E 13th Ave (At the intersection of 13th and Franklin Blvd)
Looking for a place to keep up your contacts while you're on the road? The Buzz Net Café located on 13th Street at the east end of the University of Oregon campus provides internet access and espresso excess. Rent a computer at $2.50 for 15 minutes or $8 per hour. If you're not in the mood for coffee, your lips can sip a soda, juice, smoothie or milkshake while your fingers do the chatting.

Café Aroma
296 E 5th Ave (Inside the 5th Street Public Market) &
293 Valley River Center (Inside the mall)
When the going gets tough the tough go shopping, but when the shopping gets tough the tough get coffee. With coffee bars at both the 5th Street Public Market and the Valley River Center, Café Aroma gives a flavorful boost to marketplace dwellers and mall visitors with their whole bean blends, teas and organic brews. Café Aroma boasts over 10 featured blends, but they don't forget about their customers who aren't java junkies. Italian sodas and teas are offered at both locations, and specialty smoothies like their Quad berry Delight or Lemango Infusion are available in the 5th Street Market. Sip your beverage in the food court facilities at the Public Market location or take it out to the courtyard where you can grab a seat by the fountain and smell the fresh scents wafting from nearby Rhythm and Blooms flower stand. Seating is provided inside the Valley River Center location, so shoppers can rest their aching feet while they enjoy a cup.

The DuckStop!
894 E Kincaid, (541) 344-6174
A campus favorite for the Northwest's finest coffee. Located inside the University of Oregon bookstore at Kincaid and 13th, the DuckStop! is newly remodeled and still maintains the lowest prices for coffee on campus. Fresh-baked pastries are served daily as well.

Dutch Bros. Coffee
2115 Franklin Blvd
Whether you're on your way into town or on your way out, the Dutch Bro's coffee stand on Franklin Boulevard provides the perfect place to get a cup of coffee on the go. Their rich and smooth java is so tasty, the Dutch Bro's operation, which originated in Grants Pass in 1992, has spread to over 30 stand locations in western Oregon. You can drive right up to the window, but if your mode of transportation happens to be your own two feet, feel free to walk up, or take a seat on the outdoor seating deck. Don't forget to get a punch card before you leave; you'll be back.

Espresso Roma
825 E.13th Av, Eugene
Although its location puts it in competition with Starbucks, this coffee shop does not try to drag you in with specials and flashy interior. Simple wood furniture and nice staff make this a great place for a quiet coffee and a chat.

Express-o-Wash
595 E 13th Ave (At the corner of 13th and Patterson)
By far the most eclectic combo coffee shop in Eugene, Express-o-Wash is located near campus on the corner of 13th and Patterson. Stop in for a steaming cup and a snack while you catch up on last week's laundry. If watching your clothes spin in the dryer has you bored, catch up on current events on the large screen television in the seating area. Looking for even more instant gratification? Throw your clothes in the wash, slam an espresso shot and bounce into the tanning booth. With hot drinks, dry clothes and a golden tan, Express-o-Wash offers a serious solution to the rainy winter doldrums. [Note: Express-o-Wash is getting new coffee equipment which won't be up and running until January.]

Full City Coffee Roasters
842 Pearl St & 295 E 13th Avenue (at High Street), Eugene
Recently voted Best Coffee in Eugene, this coffee shop is great for serious coffee lovers. The owner personally roasts all the beans daily. Although fairly small, Full City does a roaring trade and has an outdoor seating area for those in less of a hurry.

Out Of The Fog
450 Willamette Street (Inside Morning Glory Café)
Sharing space with Morning Glory Café, one of Eugene's most beloved organic eateries, Out of the Fog serves up fresh whole bean goodness with their all-organic blend coffee. Located next to the train station in downtown Eugene, visitors are welcomed by a collage of interesting folks who have made the Out of the Fog/ Morning Glory combination their favorite local hangout. Stop in and grab a latte, organic tea, or a locally made Genesis Juice for a refreshing start to your day.

Perugino
767 Willamette Street (At street level in the Smeede Hotel Building)
Since its opening in 2002, this coffeehouse has made its home on the quaint tree-lined section of Willamette Street between 7th and 8th avenues. More than just a place to grab a good java jolt, Perugino is also a wine bar and art gallery with an extensive beer and wine menu. Try something delicious from their extensive pastry and dessert menu while you check out the display of Italian ceramics (which are all on sale for those visitors who want to add a $1000 tea set to their coffee or wine bill). Some of the friendliest baristas in Eugene also make this Anthony's favorite place to get jittery.

Sip n' Surf Cybercafe*
99 W 10th Ave #119 (In the lobby of the Atrium Building at the corner of 10th and Olive)
Centrally located downtown in the Atrium Building at 10th and Olive, Sip n' Surf provides the Eugene community with good coffee and easy Internet access among other things. Stop in to surf the net and try the daily changing lunch special, or grab some caffeine for kids at the slush puppy machine. Besides coffee and espresso, Sip n' Surf has a variety of snacks and drinks to keep you fulfilled while clicking away at a computer that can be rented for 10 cents a minute or $6 per hour. Get the first 15 minutes free with your food purchase.

Starbucks Coffee Company
205 E.18th & 801 E.13th Av, Eugene
We know it has become the McDonalds of coffee shops, but this is for a reason: they do good coffee. Their shop on 13th Av, by the university, is fairly big and is usually crowded with students getting that jolt before class.

Theo's Coffee House
150 W Broadway, Eugene
Stepping into Theo's Coffee House on West Broadway is like stopping by an old professor's house or visiting grandma. Overstuffed couches and mismatched wooden tables characterize the cozy atmosphere. Pictorial works like San Francisco from Above and books like The Guinness Book of World Records 2000 Edition or Time's Our Century are stacked up on end tables. A chess game is set up on a corner table waiting for the cunning maneuvers of a seasoned strategist or the frustrated touch of a novice. Relax with a cup of Joe blended by local Full City coffee roasters or grab a juice from the Odwalla case and just relax.
