The International Guesthouse offers private rooms in a restored turn-of-the-century historic home located in Portland's popular Northwest Nob Hill Neighborhood. Nearby cafes, shops, brew pubs, theaters, galleries and nightlife create a district where "hip meets historic." During the summer months, visit the free weekly music concerts in neighboring parks. The City Center, Amtrak/Greyhound station, Washington Park featuring the Oregon Zoo, Rose and Japanese Gardens and Forestry Center, Saturday Market exhibiting arts, crafts and food vendors, museums, Forest Park, the nation's largest natural city park, and Chinatown's Classic Chinese Gardens are all within walking distance or a short bus/MAX Light Rail ride away. The Guesthouse and HI-Portland Hostel, Northwest Neighborhood have the same owners; however, the guesthouse is not licensed by Hostelling International. Their helpful and friendly staff will give travelers great information on things to see and do as well as set up van tours to Mt. St. Helens Volcano, Columbia River Gorge, Cascade Mountains and the Oregon Coast.

Directions
From Airport: Take red line MAX train to Pioneer Square, transfer to blue line, exit at PGE Park, walk north on 18th Avenue 6 blocks to Glisan Street.

From Train or Bus: walk south 1 block, then right on Glisan, 12 blocks to hostel (10 minutes) or ride #17 bus free by exiting at 15th & Glisan and walking 3 blocks west.

From South: Take I-405 (exit 299B), exit on Everett St., left on Glisan St., and three blocks to hostel.

From North: Take I-405 (exit 302B), exit on Everett St., follow signs around block to Glisan, hostel is 3 blocks, on left.

Hostess House is located about 12 minutes by car from downtown Portland, but it is close to the bus/MAX Light Rail routes. They provide off-street parking, access to dining and living rooms and TV and VCR in all rooms. The Hostess is friendly and boasts of good food that includes vegan and vegetarian dishes upon prior notification.

Directions
Driving from Downtown: Take the Morrison Bridge toward Seattle/The Dalles, continue toward The Dalles, then merge onto I-84 East. Take the 39th Ave exit, exit #2. Turn left on NE 39th Ave, go approximately 1 mile to NE Sandy Blvd. and turn right. Go up to 57th Ave. and turn left. This street veers to the right and turns into Cully Blvd. Continue on Cully Blvd, then turn left on NE 62nd Ave, then turn left on NE Emerson St. and go up to 57th Ave.

Gedney Gardens is a big, old house located 2 miles from downtown Portland on a hill overlooking the city and Mt. Hood. Downtown is within walking distance along shop-lined streets, or the bus route stops nearby. All the rooms have a TV and shared bathroom facilities. Two of the rooms contain a fire place. They provide family style breakfasts and vegan/vegetarian meals. Meat dishes can be prepared upon request.

Directions
Driving South on I-5: Merge onto I-405 South taking the I-405/St. Helens (US-30 W) exit toward Beaverton/Ocean Beaches. Then take the US-30 West exit toward St. Helens (exit 3). Merge onto US-30, then take the Vaughn Street exit. Turn left onto NW 23rd Avenue, then right on NW Lovejoy Street. Bear right on NW Cornell Rd.

Driving North on I-5: Stay in the left lanes and take the I-405/Beaverton (US-26 W) exit toward the City Center. Merge onto I-405 North, then take the US-30 West exit toward St. Helens (exit 3). Merge onto US-30, then take the Vaughn Street exit. Turn left onto NW 23rd Avenue, then right on NW Lovejoy Street. Bear right on NW Cornell Rd.

From Greyhound/Amtrak station: Walk to Glisan and 6th and take the 77 Broadway-Halsey to Montgomery Park. Get off at 23rd and Overton. Walk a half mile west to Cornell Rd.
