Trekking in Nepal
By Ian Reynolds

The Solu-Khumbu region is a magnet for mountaineers, adventurers and trekkers who are drawn by a desire to see Mount Everest, the world's highest mountain. The exploits of Mallory and Irvine, Hillary and Tenzing add to the mountain's mystique.

In the autumn of 1995 I went to Nepal to trek through some of the most spectacular mountain scenery in the world. The aim was to get as close as possible to the top of Everest without actually climbing it.

On arrival in Kathmandu I discovered that all aeroplane flights to Lukla, the start of my trek, had been cancelled. It appeared that my trip had been scuppered before I had even started.

Would I fulfil my dream of seeing Everest? Read on and find out what happens on my trek through Nepal.
